What does the padlock on a file icon mean?

The icon is there because some windows shell (Like Tortise SVN) is telling Windows that the file is located under its control and overlays the default icon with a visual indication that you are using source control.  Nothing to do with LabVIEW at all.  Checking the LabVIEW option prevents you from making changes to the code without first checking the file out of the source code repository.  (Beware it is one of those options that requires you to restart LabVIEW before it makes a difference)

Ok that makes sense.  I guess my confusion stems from the fact that only a few of the file icons are showing the lock although all the files are in source control.

Talked to the aforementioned coworker again...he said it has nothing to do with Source Safe, but rather it shows up for him some times after LabVIEW crashes and he uses the auto recover option (even on files not in Source Safe).  But if the file is still working he can copy it to another computer, save it, then copy it back and the lock disappears.
