Strobe with LabView with Ocean Optics USB-2000 spectrometer

Hi, I am just a student and a new user to this board so sorry if my question is in the wrong section.  My questions is:

When using my Ocean Optics USB2000 spectrometer, why would I want my light source to strobe and not just be continuous?

Thank you.

Hello,

That seems like it would entirely depend on your application. From the manual, it appears it would be for timing.

OK thank you but why would strobeing the light be better then just running the light source continuously?

I do not know if you would be better suited by using a  strobe or continuously light for your spectrometer. I have attached the reasoning OceanOptics might consider using a strobe.

"Shutter

A shutter is used to prevent light entering the spectrometer during dark measurements. It is typically controlled from the spectrometer as an external strobe so that it opens and closes in time with measurements. Shutters can be connected via optical fibres in front of the spectrometer, but the QE Pro contains an internal shutter to offer this control without the potential attenuation of signal along these fibres."

Hopefully this is helpful.
