Shared Variable Question

I am atempting to create an application which gathers data from a local OPC server and creates shared variables which can be accesses from any Labview application on our network. The reason for the application is because the local OPC server allows only local connections to it. In order to make the data available on the network I need to create my own data server. I figured a good way to do this was to use a shared variable server. Will this work?
