I just use the VISA functions (Configure Serial Port, VISA Write, VISA Read). There are a couple of serial examples but both have flaws. Give them a look, though. The biggest issue I have with the examples is the use of the bytes at serial port function. This is often a function that causes problems and is not at all necessary when the instrument appends a termination character after the data.
