I use the same ones with good luck as well.

Also like the SiLabs CP2102 USB-UARTs, but that's more of a design-a-product part.

As far as hubs go, Startech's got some that I've had really good luck with:

Will need a power supply with it, digikey/allied/mouser/mcmaster all have 12v-2a plug-in supplies that work.

I will look into those, i am actually running an SIlabs USB in this application and have not seen a failure in that one, but that converter is built into another device.

Does it use a Prolific or FTDI chipset?

Unless I'm completely mistaken, it uses the FTDI chipset.

From what I've seen on the forums, most people have had more success with the FTDI chipset than the Prolific.  Though I think I've seen a few messages where people swore they had problems with the FTDI and not the Prolific.

I have used EasySYNC devices (FTDI chipset) with no problems.

Seems like it is pretty definitive that the FTDI chipset is the best option.  I just picked up two, but the companys website is down and thats where the drivers are at.  So hopefully they fix that soon and im gonna run this over the weekend and see if i have any issues.
