I am not a skilled LabView writer, my only experience with this software is manipulating existing drivers for my own purposes. But Labview is a very intuitive for hardware control. I am trying to develop an antenna tracking system but I have yet to find any lab view drivers for a pan and tilt system (excluding one from Direct Perceptions, they claim it won't work and won't even tell me what model it is specifically for). Are there existing drivers for a pan tilt system available somewhere? If not, how easy is it to take a piece of hardware that communicates via RS 232 and write labview code from scratch to operate it?
if you have proper documentation of the command syntax of your hardware it is not too difficult. You can find many examples about serial communication in Labview.
