Overhead of using Wfm Graph as subVI output terminal?

Solved!
Go to solution

--My core question:
If the Front Panel remains closed, is there any difference between a Wfm Graph and a Wfm Indicator as an output terminal?

--Question in context:
I have a non-reentrant subVI that will run in my program and output a Waveform.  Occasionally, I will want to open up this subVI's Front Panel, and tweak its internal parameters while viewing its output on a Wfm Graph.

The minimal solution would seem to make the Wfm Graph of the subVI Panel double as the Output Terminal, as opposed to outputting through a Wfm Indicator.  But would that increase the resources used during the subVI's normal operation?

Thanks in advance, and have a great day.

There should be no overhead. The graph would only update if the front panel is open. Most of the time, the front panels of subVIs aren't even in memory.

Thanks a bunch Mike.  That's about how I had it figured, but well...sometimes I figure wrong.

Thanks again, and have a great holidays.
