Another solution which'll even reduce the number of of controls on the main VI is to use Sub panels, i've not worked on RT though.

I've managed to avoid the use of control references to sub-vi's by sending the values back from sub-vi's, but that depends on the overall structure of the program. Refactoring can be a female hound. 😉

SCADA is a Windows App (.EXE)

 

I work a lot in R/T - there are no front panels at all ... for now (LV14?).

 

My re-factoring exercises we to do exactly what you said.  Do the major calcs in a sub vi then pass the result to the F.P.
