Labview PDA on Samsung Blackjack Smartphone (WM5)

Has anyone had any luck deploying an application on a samsung blackjack (or any samsung smartphone for that matter) ?  I wrote an app and when I deploy it, I get an error that keeps it from running at all:

ALERT
Can't find '<name of app>' (or one of its components).  Make sure the path and filename are corect and that all the required libraries are available.

I did some searching which stated a known issue that labview pda doesn't run on samsung phones because of a missing commdlg.dll.  Doing more reading from the forums made it sound like the missing dll keeps PART of labview pda from working properly, but it sounds partially runnable ??

Also, would it be possible to just put the missing dll onto the phone if that did happen to be the problem that is keeping any applications from being ran at all ?

Thanks
M

Hi mykl,

Are you using any of the PDA Pink Color VIs? The PDA Pick Color VI does not support Samsung or Motorola Q Smartphones. This is a known issue and has been documented in the PDA Module for Windows Mobile Known Issues (ID: 447GK1X1).

Sorry, I meant PDA Pick Color VI.

Also, LabVIEW 8.2.1 PDA module does not support Samsung and Motorola Q Smartphones because these phones are missing commdlg.dll. This has been fixed in LabVIEW 8.5.

I use 8.5 with the Blackjack. The only issue I've had is the lack of touch screen and porting my PDA code over for that.

Hi teresadmij,

With the release of NI-DAQmx Base 2.0.1 the USB-6008, 6009, and 6501 can be used with a PDA. I do not have a Loox Pocket T830, so I cannot gaurentee that the USB-6008 would work with your device. However, here are some things to keep in mind when choosing a PDA device.

The PDA must have USB hosting capabilities as it must act as the master USB device.
Some PDA will turn off the USB port to Save Power.

Hi learnarmy,

Unfortunately, I cannot specifically recommend any PDA over another. However, we did succesfully test the following PDAs

Toshiba e750
Acer n30
Acer n300
Archer Ultra-Rugged PDA

There's just too many PDAs out in the market for us to test every PDA, so I can't tell you if the models you've listed will work. It's probably a good idea to contact the PDA's manufacturer to determine if

1) The PDA has USB hosting capabilities (must act as the master USB device)
2) Power is constantly supplied through the USB interface

I did some research a couple years back and USB host PDAs are tough to find. I think it'll be a short list!

Thanks Stanley Hu,

The specifications of PDAs Fujitsu siemens Loox Pocket T830  and Loox Pocket N560 indicate that these have USB Host, and i think to buy one,  but I have a great doubt: the T830 has a 240x240 resolution, and  N560 have a 480x640, but  I like the T830, my question is: whit this one resolution, is recomendable for aplications with the Labview module??

I appreciate your attention.
