LabVIEW run-time installer pops up every time I open LabVIEW

I am using LV2014 but every time I open LabVIEW I get a prompt to install the 8.5.1 Run-Time Engine. I have no idea what I did to make this start happening, but it is getting annoying.

I had the same issue (with LV2012 complaining about the 8.5.1 Runtime though), and if I remember correctly installing the 8.5.1 Run-Time engine resolved the issue.

You most likely installed an NI software package that used some older installer component than an already installed package. Happened to me too on more than one occasion when installing Toolkits into older LabVIEW installations while newer LabVIEW installations were already present on the machine. I haven't found a fix for that other than removing the entire NI software and reinstalling it. Trying to (re)install the offending runtime installer didn't seem to have any effect.

If I try to install the 8.5.1 run-time engine I get the following message, and the problem persists.
