LabVIEW 2014 f1 Patch not installing?

Hi, Everybody --

I started up our lab computer this morning and got an NI Update box, asking if I'd like to install the LabVIEW 2014 f1 Patch.  I said "Sure!" and away the downloader went.  It finished downloading, the files were extracted, and the installer started.  It almost immediately displayed a message saying that LabVIEW 2014 had to be installed before the patch could be run.  The problem is that LabVIEW 2014 is installed on this computer (LabVIEW 2014 SP1).  I've tried installing the patch through the NI Updater three times now, getting the same result.  I also went to C:\Program Data\National instruments\Update Service\Installers\NI_20150427_1031 (the last time I tried it) and tried the setup.exe from that folder.  No luck.

I have screenshots of the messages from both the NI Updater and Setup.exe attempts, and a screenshot of the About LabVIEW display if any of them would help.

Any idea as to why the patch isn't installing?

Thanks for your time!

Mark

2014SP1 > 2014. I think the patch does not apply to SP1.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Would that mean, then, that the NI Updater isn't seeing the fact that our installed version is SP1 for some reason?

Sorry, I don't know what could be wrong. Somebody from NI probably needs to troubleshoot this.

I also have exactly the same problem.

The only difference is I did three software upgrades in a row without installing any of the online updates in between. So I went from 2013 to 2013 SP1, then straight after to 2014 then straight after that to 2014 SP1 (four days solid!)

All the other online software updates downloaded and installed absolutely fine, its just the 2014 f1 patch that continually says it available for download.

Out of interest, if you have say 2014 SP1 (2015 DS1), do you still have to install 2014 (2014 DS2) prior to it or does 2014 SP1 contain 2014 plus other stuff?

When you install any SP1 pack it overwrites the version in the program list although I still believe the Run-Time engine is specific to either with/without SP1.

Can anybody clarify this for me?

Cheers

Mitch

You do not need to install 2014 before install 2014SP1.  If anything it would be a wasted of time.  2014SP1 is a complete replacement for 2014, not ust an "add-on".

At the moment, I don't remember if there is such thing as separate 2014 and 2014SP1 run-time engines that exist side by side.  I want to say no.  But I"m actually installing SP1 at the moment, so I am not able to check.

Hi RavensFan,

I’ve just checked the website and I can find separate RTEs for both the initial release and SP1 releases post 2010 up to and including 2014 (all 32-bit standard Windows option anyway). 2009 and 2010 appear to only have SP1 RTEs available but this could be incorrect.

It’s an interesting point you raise about not needing to install 2014 before 2014 SP1. Whilst this is a godsend and something I shall remember for the future, I wonder what happens in the scenario where somebody sends you code written in 2014 SP1 but the other user only has 2014 installed if the update is indeed a complete update and not an add on. I would have expected 2014 and 2014 SP1, and any version for that matter to be separate in the license manager and program list if the releases were indeed completely separate.

2014 non-SP can open 2014 SP1 code just fine and vice versa. (Or at least I know for a fact for all version of LabVIEW from 7.1 to 2013)

I think it may tell you it was originally saved in the other version and ask you to resave it.

Yes there are two different version of the runtime.  The one that came out with 2014 and the one that came out with 2014SP1 and you can download either or both.  The one thing I don't know for a fact is if you have to have the 2014 runtime installed as well to run an .exe built in 2014 if you have already installed 2014SP1.
