Whatever I use I'll be testing the circuits with resistors to simulate the pyros before I actually hook them up.
Based upon your comment I am definitely paying attention to the power on state. I thought about this problem before so I've written some VI's with an "ARMED" button and a "FIRE" button to prevent the voltage output when starting the VI.
Our standard method is to plug the leads directly into the powered-up power supply. That will be our final safety measure.

Have you ever seen a episode of Mythbusters? get a trained professional. Let them blow themself up and keep all of your fingers, toes, eyes, legs etc....(Those things you were born with that you might just like to keep)
