How to get TDMS properties and how to use them once you have them?

I have a TDMS file that has 8 previously set properties that I need to get and use as parameters for various actions.

I am using the TDMS Get Properties function and am almost certain I am hooking the 'property names' and property values' ports up incorrectly. Currently, I have an array of strings attached to the names port that lists every property name I am attempting to get. To the values port, I have a build array function. How do I effectively get property names and values from a TDMS file?

Also, once I have these property values, how do I go about using them?
