Error with the Shared Variable Engine

Hi,

I have a problem with the Shared Variable Engine,

A .doc File is attached to this message, decribing the problem with pictures.

I will be glad if anyone can help me.

Sincerely yours

Hi Amitai,

Thanks for the post and I hope your well today.

Thanks also for the brilliant document - very detailed!

The error does seem pretty serious - but all the processes seem to have correctly started.

I would maybe suggest repairing the NI Shared Variable Engine, this can be done from the control panel.

Do you have another version of LabVIEW to try?

I will look into this more tomorrow.

Kind Regards,
James.

Hi Amitai,

Good afternoon and I hope your well.

A member of the team from NI Israel contacted me regarding this post.

I want to provide you with extra details on how to resolve your issue - i.e. Repair (Or Re-install) the Shared Variable Engine.

If you use the MsiBlast Tool it will populate a list of all MSI NI Installers. One of these will be NI Variable Engine. On the right-hand side you can the click 'Repair'. I would also Repair the engine support for the versions of LabVIEW you have installed. Please see attachments for MsiBlast and a screenshoot of the MSIBlast screen.

If this doesn't work I would recommend re-installing LabVIEW using the following guide, which I posted on this forum. (second post by me).

Please let me know how you get on,

Kind Regards,
James.

Hi Hillman,

Thank you for your reply (or should I say replies...) ,

I forgot to mention that I use LabVIEW 8.2.1 DSC,

and I don't have any other versions.

Also, I need to use the Project from the specific computer since other essential softwares and servers are installed in there (like OPC).

Your message regarding the MsiBlast Tool looks interesting,

I will try it right away and inform you.

(I understand that our time zone is not so different as opposed to what I am used to Smiley Happy)

Thanks again,

Amitai.

Hi Amitai,

Thanks for the reply.

It is nearly 1pm here in the UK - so I will be around for another 5 hours or so. If you could update me in that time I will be able to continue your support. However, I am under the beleive that repairing, or re-installing should resolve this issue. To confirm it works, please use one of the NI Examples.

Hope this helps,

Kind Regards

Hi James,

Thank you again,

I have tried the Repair, It didn't help.

So I will try the Re-installing next.

What I did get, is some humor? (see file attached).

I will inform you how it goes next.

Sincerely yours,

Amitai.

Hi James,

My supervisors here adviced me to not Re-install all NI related software in the specific computer, (as written in step 2 of your post)

until I consider all the implications it might have.

This computer has many NI related software and servers installed, (and a part of the Ehternet network here)

So I will need to wait until Sunday to do it.

I guess you are not around at Sunday (due to Christianity reasons)

So I hope it will work and then I could Kudos you to everyone I knowSmiley Happy

Sincerely yours,

Amitai

Hi Amitai,

Thanks for the update - I am afraid its the weekend, but I will be back in on Monday 9am sharp!

Honestly, there is something very corrupt with the machine.. and to proof it I bet you could get this to work on another machine - have you tried, to confirm nothing silly is happening.

That was a rather funny error you got. So did you not repair and rebot the normal NI Variable Engine referance? This is sometimes just as good as an re-install. I would maybe try this. The support reference was just a guess, we don't normally update this.

Kind Regards,
James.
