Well, maybe, but that falls into the basket labelled "implementation details" and I wouldn't rely on any of it.
In this case I would agree with you. The help even mentions that you could try to read values of an array instead of the value of the element. That being said this neat technique has been valid since LabVIEW 8.x era at least and I don't see NI changing the behavior without mentioning it in the change log.
