Context help for objects on tabs (bug?)

Solved!
Go to solution

If a control or indicator is on a tab, the context help for it apparently no longer works. This is especially annoying for e.g. complicated clusters.

Is there a workaround that I am mising?

Example: here is the context help for a cluster (A) and for the same cluster when placed on a tab control (B). Obviously case B is completely useless. 😞

Some further searching shows older reports about the same thing:

Possible bug with Tab Control and Context Help? (3Z54F07U)

Bug with context help on tabs? (CAR # 154260 )

It seems this has not been fixed for LabVIEW 2009! 😞

Hi Altenbach,

It is true that this is not fixed for 2009.  I checked the status of the CAR and it just didn't make it in to the 2009 release.  It is still open and it looks like they still intend to fix it in the future, but no guarantees on which release.

Hi Altenbach,

This annoying bug is also true for LabVIEW 2010!!

But you can force LabVIEW to show the right context help instead of the one for the tab control!

Simply add some text to the "Description and Tip" text field of your control.

This was the difference between to graphs, one showing the right context help, the other not.

Thank you Thilo!

I was reading this thread and thinking "Yes I have seen that bug." and "But why did it work for me when last i tried it?"

I did indeed add desriptions and tips.
