Hi guys, I'm trying to run the Graphics and sounds examples of Labview but haven't had any success, Labview generates the next error:
LabVEW: (Hex 0x12CA) Cannot recognize sound format
I've tested the examples of labview on another computer with sucess, but this particular computer hasn't been able to run the examples, I have my sound drivers up to date. Any info on the topic is appreciated, thanks in advanced.

Does the wave file play with other media players?

Hello robertlks,
Thanks for using National Instruments Discussion Forums, I have some questions
What example are you running?
Have you checked that you have installed the codecs?
Have you checked if the files you are trying to reproduce use a specific codec?
What OS and what version of LabVIEW are you using?
(If you are using Windows 7, you can download the Windows Media Format Runtime from the following link:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19289 )
Could you share with us your VI and some of the files you are trying to play?

Hi there,
I have exactly the same problem.
Windows 10 64bit fully updated fully upgraded.
LabVIEW 2017 64bit just installed.
*.wav sounds correctly by Windwos Player but not by the sample VI (Sound Player.vi).
The message is '(Hex 0x12CA) Cannot recognize sound format'.
Wish someone will solve it.
Thanks in advance.
Best wishes,
Saburo

Have you tried LabVIEW 32bit?

Hello,
I just moved from LabVIEW 2010 32bit, so I wish 64bit
There were no problem with the old version till yesterday night.
Being installed the new version, the same VIs don't sound by now.
However, I found that the 2017 32bit version was also installed in my PC so I tried the same and found that there was no problem! Do I have to throw the 64bit version away? FYI, the 32bit version is in Japanese so as the windows, but 62bit version is supplied only in English. Does it affect?
Best,
Saburo

No, you can keep the 64bit version installed, but you probably should use the 32bit version for typical work. The 64bit version only makes sense if you need to deal with massive, gigantic data sets. How much RAM do you have?

Thanks,
Some of my VIs use massive data together with others that do not. They are all converted into exe files to operate on many PCs at the same time tcommunicating each other through network so that sounding is somewhat critical to notice some issues. Since 32bit exe does not run together with 64bit exe I heard, I have to think about something. Thank you anyway for the information.
Best,
Saburo
