Project Information

Title : Portable Wheelchair Kit for disabled

Description: 

  • Alert in case of accident - Portable kit capable of sending text messages to guardians or 911 in case of emergency such as falling out of wheelchair.
  • Accident prevention - Detect obstacles by using ultrasonic sensors attached under and rear of the wheelchair and alert the user by making alerting noises or use of LED
  • Grasp the situation - Gathers datas  of the accidents by taking photos to use them for accident inspection

The Challenge:

  • Prevention of death caused by falling out
    According to Korea Consumer Protection Board, falling out of wheelchair can lead to death by 67%. We tried to prevent people from falling out of wheelchair by using visual and auditory sensors to avoid obstacles and  contact the guardians or departments by sending them text messages at the moment of the accident by detecting the fall with the sensors. It is also capable of collecting datas by using camera to capture the moments of the accident to be later used  for an accident inpection.
    It is designed to be a detachable kit so it could be easily applied on wheelchairs already on use to increase marketability.
    normally it uses bluetooth devices to alert the user and the others visually with LED and auditorily with a buzzer when an obstacle is detected near the bottom and the rear of the wheelchair to prevent accidents.

 

The Solution:

It is easier to operate than other softwares and it ables users to directly program ideas that come to their minds. Also it is easy to check and fix errors and optimize since it shows what is happening on the front panel. With these features, myRIO optimized in labview inspired us to design and create portable kits and we plan on purchase more equipment to create various products.
