Side scrolling

In the image editing tool Gimp, holding shift while scrolling scrolls to the side.

A similar feature would be awesome in LV.

I occasionally use shift + scroll when I run into a diagram that scrolls in the vertical direction.

I've realized I also use shift + scroll when I end up with a graphic artifact left on the screen after dragging something around on the block diagram.  I quickly scroll up or down until the ugly bit is off screen and then back to where I was.  After being made aware of it today, I realize I do this a fair bit. You may already know these tips, but I'll say them anyway just in case.

If you use the scroll wheel while the mouse is on the horizontal scroll bar it will scroll sideways.

Also, ctrl+shift+drag will allow you to pan to wherever.

Panning is just not the same as scrolling, and first having to move the mouse to the horizontal scroll bar is inefficient.

If shift-scroll is taken, why not alt-scroll?

This has already been suggested - http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Horizontal-Scroll-Hotkey/idc-p/977860#C2105

I find shift+scroll very useful in Visio.  There is certainly an interest in adding this capability.  I hope NI goes ahead with it.
