How to count the external pulses using the ARM (LM3S8962) Evaluation Board

Hi,

       My target is to count the external pulses example( encoder) which is given as the input for the ARM evaluation Board( LM3S8962)... I dont know how to configure the counter mode in the PWM of LM3S8962... I am New to labview ARM and i dont know whether to use the timer VI or Interrrupts or PWM VI ? Its confusing a lot... Can any one guide me how to count the pulses which are given externally to board?
