The resolution to this issue was to:
1. Export the IP from HLS using an HLS version that matches the LabVIEW Communications Vivado version (2014.4)
2. Import the IP from step 1 into a new project in the LabVIEW Communications Shipping Vivado (2014.4)
3. Generate all output products of the IP.
4. Rename the output product that is [IP NAME]_funcsim.vhdl to [IP NAME]_funcsim.vhd
5. In the Comms EIP Document, set the *.dcp output product from step 3 to be the Main Synthesis Entity and the output product renamed in step 4 to be the Main Simulation Entity.
6. Verify that the simulation entity name matches the design name in the file header.
