Hey Imcaldwell,
The first thing that I would do is make sure you can establish communication with the device. Are you able to query the device and have it reply back in any way? Secondly, are you using an instrument driver or just trying to send commands.
I would suggest trying to use MAX or ibic to send simple commands to the instrument as a test. See if you are able to control the temperature using this method. If this fails, I would suggest contacting the manufacture of the instrument for suggestions.
