ni-visa and agilent IO MAX issue

Hi all,

I'm currently debugging an Agilent E5500 phase noise test system with driver issue. The system is composed of Agilent equipment but the FFT Digitizer use a NI-PCI-6111 board. When the system stopped working well after a couple of try fixing it I removed all software and reinstalled them. here is the sequence of reinstallation I used:

1- Installation of Traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4

2- Installation of NI-VISA 4.1 Full

3- Installation of NI PCI-6111 board

4- Check of the NI PCI-6111 in MAX

5- Installation of Agilent Libraries Suite 14.0 (the Agilent VISA installed as secondary VISA)

6- Check of the Agilent equipment on the GPIB bus in Connection Expert, everything is OK.

7- Installation of the E5500 software (the system control software)

8- Connection to the equipment in the E5500 Asset Manager.

Now the Asset Manager can communicate with the PCI-6111 board only when MAX is open (if MAX is closed I receive an error message that ask to verify cable conection, driver installation, ...). The same thing for the system software, it will work well only if MAX is open and it doesn't automatically connect to equipment otherwise.

My feeling is that something (NI-VISA?) is not running when  MAX is closed. Is there a setting in MAX or somewhere else to be changed?

Thanks,

Ben

Re: ni-visa and agilent IO MAX issue

Hi Ben,

Is there an error number associated with this error? It would also help if you could post a screen shot.

Ben:

Was this ever solved?  I have the exact same issue.

Re: ni-visa and agilent IO MAX issue

From what I remember there was a hardware issue with the downconverter and the system was sent back to Agilent for repair.
