USB vs. RS-232 for an Ohaus SP6000 Scale

I am attempting to connect to this scale: http://balance.balances.com/scales/272/

However, I need to purchase an USB or RS-232 connector in order to retrieve data.

How much will the connection difference change the way the VI operates?  Is there a preferred method between RS-232 and USB?

I want to create a VI to determine when the scale has reached steady state, store the scale data, repeat, and then compile the data into an array to export to a spreadsheet.

If you are using VISA, then the only change that you will need in the software is possibly the initialization of the VISA session.  Other than that, VISA takes care of it all for you.

You'll need a RS-232 port on your computer.

Many new computers don't have a RS-232 port.

If your computer does not have a RS-232 port, you may as well buy the scale with USB interface.

However, having worked with a USB temperature probe in the past, if I had a choice, I would prefer the RS-232 interface.
