Monochromator wont talk through serial port

Currently, we are trying to learn how to use the serial port lab view to communicate with an instrument. We have all the string commands and how they are to be terminated. The premade Serial Write and Read VI template is what we are using to send commands.

For the VISA configuration serial port we have set all the parameters to the values specified in the manual for the instrument.

When the VI is ran the monochromator does not respond.

Everything is plugged in.

Are we missing something?

Re: Monochromator wont talk through serial port

Any number of things can go wrong. Wrong command, wrong format of the command, wrong terminator, missing terminator, wrong type of serial cable, wrong comm settings. You could try to debug the connection with a terminal emulation program such as Hyperterminal. You should also attach the manual and take a screen shot of the front panel with one of the commands you send.
