Missing IVI.visa.dll and NationalInstruments.Visa.dll after IVI ICPSetup-1601f2

I am missing the IVI and NI Visa .NET DLLs.  This is both on a new system and a system that was updated 1/2/2017 using the latest patch (16.0.1)

  1. Is this a known issue?
  2. Please advise of a quick way to install these file, e.g., what package from the CD could be used from the command line with the /reinstall option

Thanks

David

Hi David,

If you do a modify install on your NI VISA driver, you should see an area to install .NET support. If you select to install .NET support, it should install the appropriate files.

Hi Andrew,

Thank you so much for your answer.  I wish it were so easy. Nonetheless, a fair answer for commencing this conversation.

The specific reply to your comment: Elementary Watson--done that already: the installer reports 'nothing to install'.

I think getting the answers to both original questions could serve others as well: (1) is this a known issue; (2) which package from the CD (NI4882_1600f0.exe) can be run with the /reinstall option to recover these two missing files without having to run the full installation?

Thanks again!

David

Hi David,

1. It is currently not a known issue. I tried running the patch on my computer, and my IVI.visa.dll and NationalInstruments.Visa.dll were still able to be found.

2. If it's believed that your VISA driver may be missing files, I would suggest running the full VISA installation to be certain there aren't other files that may have been deleted or corrupted. I would suggest doing this with the NI VISA from our downloads page rather than through NI-488.2 reinstall.

Hi Andrew,

Running 488.2 setup with the /reinstall option restored the files. I take this to mean that somehow the files got zapped after the initial installation; a mystery to be left behind while moving on.

I'll follow your advice on using the NI-VISA installer next month when I expect a new release given the semi-annual schedule. This will mean running both NI-488.2 (w/o VISA) and NI-VISA, which is okay. .

Best

David
