Instrument Control (GPIB, Serial, VISA, IVI)

I am attempting to create a test system using a Quantum Composer 9712. I have attached its GPIB output to the computer using a NI GPIB, however Labview still claims it does not see the device. Why is it playing invisible, and how to I fix it? Thanks for any help.

Before you can select an instrument with the VISA resource name, you have to first successfully do a scan for instruments in MAX. Did you do that?

I believe so. I opened Labview, and clicked the "Add Instrument Driver" option in the lower right. That opens a window listing the instrument drivers already have and a list of the instruments connected to the computer. I clicked "Scan for Instruments," and it brought up all the instruments I had connected save that one. I tried a number of fixes that had worked for other devices, including swapping out the connection cable or changing the locations of connections. My final setup is having the current generator directly connected to the computer (not daisy chained off of other instruments) with a NI gpib. I'm not one hundred percent sure what MAX is, to be honest, but the descriptions I've read suggested that I've been using it.

MAX is Measurement and Automation Explorer. It is on your desktop. If your instrument is not detected by the scan by instruments, then you do not have a problem with LabVIEW. You have a problem with the instrument. Other than making sure that you have enabled GPIB communication, I don't know what else to suggest. It sounds like you have already tried swapping cables and the GPIB controller is functioning if other instruments can be found. What does the vendor say?
