Ethernet control : can't find my device (keithley 6221)

Hi,

Not that long ago I connected an instrument that was not VXI compatible. Such an instrument does not show up in MAX with an automatic search.

Use the option 'manual entry of a raw socket' fill in the IP address and port number

Works for me.

I have this same problem.  I tried your instructions and when I tried to "Validate" my connection, I got

"Could not open a VISA session to 

"TCPIP0::192.168.000.002::1394::SOCKET".

VISA error code 0xBFFF0011

Insufficient location information or the device or resource is not present in the system"

I am using Windows 7 if that is an issue.

Can you ping the instrument and is 000 allowed in an IP address?

i think there is no problem with the 0 in the ip address (on many local networks.. like mine, some PCs have 192.168.0.XXX !)

for my case, the 6221 worked from time to time (and sometimes just hung up... i can ping it for few minutes then it is blocked...I guess mine is broken (no useful asnwer from the Ke aka tektronix forums so I went back the the gpib)
