E3631A wont responde

I try for example the simplest command, IDN?, in HyperTerminal or a similar program to get feedback from HP power supply E3631A. But I dont get any response. After a while I get Input buffer overflow on the instrument display, so I seem to have contact. I have the correct baud rate and settings, cause if I change the baud rate on my computer, I get RS-232 framing error.
Neither do I get the OUTP ON to work.
What do I do wrong??

Regards Magnus

Sounds like a bad baudrate setting. Can you verify that all of your settings match what the hardware expects? You'll need to check:

Baudrate
Data bits
Stop bits
Parity
Flow control

My settings:
E3631A
Baud rate - 9600
Parity - None
Databits - 8
Start bits - 1 (fixed on instrument)
Stop bits - 2 (fixed on instrument)
Flow control - no settings

COMPUTER
Baud rate - 9600
Parity - None
Databits - 8
Start bits - 1 (fixed)
Stop bits - 2
Flow control - none (I have tried HW as well)

I have double checked!

Hmmm - unfortunately if the settings match and you are having problems with hyperterm, then you may need to contact HP to debug the meter.

Problem solved!
After opening the instrument and resoldering the RS232 connector everything seems to be working just fine. It must have been a loose contact!
