Using Bus Monitor with NI-9866 & NI LIN Examples to confirm setup

I am having trouble sending messages from my NI-9866 LIN Module and need help confirming my setup is correct.  

Hardware:

• NI-9174 with NI-9866 Module & CAN Breakout Box

Software:  

• LV2016, XNET 16

Steps I have taken:

• Powered all equipment, all indications show devices are properly configured & wired
• Opened and tried each of the NI LIN examples in an effort to capture anything sent using the builtin bus monitor 
• I see activity lights flashing during commands on both the mainframe and module.
• When I try to capture any of the Frames\Signals using the Bus Monitor I get nothing.
• So, I then tried dragging the XNET Signal Session I created into a blank VI.  It runs, lights blink, no error
  • If I turn on the Bus Monitor and run the VI I get the error shown in the attached pic

Shouldn't I be able to capture the frames\signals I send to the 9866 even if the device on the other end does not recognize the message?  So before I can confirm if I am creating the frames correctly I want to make sure what I send is being broadcast on my small LIN network.
