Connect Newport 6100 USB port through VISA

I try to connect NEWPORT 6100 laser and temperature controller through VISA. I followed the instruction to install the USB driver. I can see instrument from NIMAX but it doesn't response to any commends.

From the VISA test panel, it shows " Interrupt In Pipe Status" has invalid property value. Is there any way to figure out what is the right setting?

Thanks,

Steven

Hi Steven,

What commands are you attempting to send to the device. Just quickly looking at the user manual, it looks querying "*IDN?" should identify the device. The manual also mentions that all commands sent to the instrument must be terminated by "<CR><LF>". Are you also using the termination characters when sending commands?

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried "*IDN?\r\n" and it the gave me E0116 error message which is Syntax Error.

Did I type anything wrong?

Thanks,

Steven

I'm assuming you get some type of error if you don't include the "\r\n"?

Maybe try just "\r" at the end.

Have you tried running any of the LabVIEW examples that they have on their website?

What version of NI VISA do you have installed?

I have NI-VISA 14.0 installed in my computer. Do I need to upgrade or downgrade to make it work?

As long as you're using LabVIEW 2011-2014, using NI VISA 14.0 is fine.

Can you also send a screenshot of what the device looks like in NI MAX as well as the error that you receive when trying to run the LabVIEW examples they have provided.
