A common occurance in the forum is newbies asking questions, getting their questions answered, and then leaving. A lot of them have just posted for the first and last time, so they don't care about the "Accept as Solution" button, or Kudos, or the forum features we all use to help navigate topics.
What if there was a feature, that anybody who views a thread could utilize, called "Suggest as Solution". If enough people click this for a post in the thread, then the system could mark the thread as Solved. The system could even add a one-week delay (or longer) to this new feature in case OP comes back with questions and doesn't want the solution marked yet.
Having a solution to a thread is important for forum-helpers to navigate to the threads that need help and also important when people with similar problems are looking for a solution.

Solved! Go to Solution.

Hi James,
Thanks for the feedback.
Even though we are attempting to educate new users on Using Accepted Solutions, as you stated some users never return to follow up on their question. So I agree, this would be a good function to have. Similar functions and workflows have already been raised to Lithium, including the ability to suggestion an accepted solution and sorting posts in a topic by most kudoed. Also, we're working on rolling out some other OOTB functionality to potentially increase accepted solutions as well.
Thanks!
