Did you mean:

"Put em back! Put em back, Put em back the way they was!"

That is a line from the musical "Lil Abner" where the wives of the "new and improved" test subjects that looked beautiful but where absolutely useless were revealed.

As of this morning I have found that using while IE and the forums we no longer have the ability to include images hosted on another site. The image insertion refuses to accept the URL of the images.

The above is an example.

PUT IT BACK THE WAY IT WAS!

That post was made by going to another web-site linking an image then copying the HTML. THen return to the NI site, switch to "HTML" and pasting in the syntax.

So I thinks speaks to the revised image insertion screen being fugly.

Interesting workaround. Yes, the tool often does not even understand the image urls from images posted here in the forum. 😮

We are definitely beta testers of alpha quality software so hopefully things will improve quickly as feedback comes back. 😄

OTOH, hot linking to images inserted elsewhere is somewhat dangerous. The remote site might not allow it or the image might disappear or change at any time. Many years ago, some image hosting sites discouraged (=prevented) hot linking by silently substituting a placeholder image (or worse, something offensive) unless the request (=referrer) came from their own site. Also if the image is only http, the browser might throw a warning that not all parts of the page are secure. It is probably always preferable to upload images.

You are reading it! 😄

(I just made all that up from scratch, so this is only my opinion. Peer review will hopefully support or disprove it. 🐵

I was actually surprised that you image linked to the external site. I was under the impression that the tool would just grab it and store it locally, but what do I know? Maybe there are DMCA concerns?

Ben - we are looking into this issue. As a workaround, the URL you initially attempted to use can be used within the <img src="URLHERE"> HTML (as you did in your second post).

Also, yes the information Christian provided regarding hotlinking images is correct. It can cause performance issues (especially for regional users).

If you attempt to hotlink an image in the uploader, it will actually save it and host it through the community instead.

Hmmmm....

First reaction is that DMCA would favor linking to the original rather copying the image and loosing reference to the source.

But that is just a grumpy old man's opinion.

NO!

It refused to accept the URL (see above where I pasted what I was trying to enter in the URL section of the insert image screen).

If it worked I would not have started this thread and I could have adapted.

That's actually what I meant too. I was trying to explain that the page source did not link to ni for the image. I was under the impression that you were able to insert the image using the tool after switching to http, but maybe my mind was filling in too many blanks 😄 You said "THen return to the NI site, switch to "HTML" and pasting in the syntax." and I read it as pasting it into the image tool, with the only difference being http instead of https on the NI page.)
