Did you mean:

Please let us search with empty search terms

There are plenty of scenarios where it would help to allow leaving the search box empty, especially if there are plenty of other restrictions in the advanced mode.

E.g. if I want ...

  1. all posts
  2. containing images
  3. of a certain user
  4. from the last month
  5. that has kudos.

Currently, I need to remember at least one word that is shared among all these posts, impossible!

It would even be useful to do a default seach with an empty search box, and it should return all recent activity sorted by time, irrespective of the forum.

Submitting empty queries for the entire community can cause severe performance issues. There are no plans to change this due to that.

We will investigate if it is possible for users to do scoped, empty searches (like scoping to the LabVIEW board but searching for all of your posts).

If you're looking for all recent posts, regardless of location and author, you could always use the recent posts page: http://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/message

Thanks,

Lili

Yes please, Lili: this would dramatically improve the search engine characteristics!

That list may be useful: is this link evident somewhere on the site or do we need to bookmark it?

And can it be tailored someway? I have discovered http://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/thread which lists all new threads started from now backwards, but there may be other possibilities

Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

If you're on the homepage, scroll down to the 3-tab component on the right side. Click on Recent Posts, then View All to get to the recent posts page for the entire community.

There are a few different URL structures you can use to scope the types of recent posts you see.

New posts for a specific category:
http://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/category-id/IDGOESHERE/post-type/message

New posts for a specific board:
http://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/board-id/IDGOESHERE/post-type/message

New ideas for the entire community:

http://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/message/interaction-style/Ideas

New documents for the entire community:

New blog posts for the entire community:

I was suspecting that. I guess it all depends how the database indexing is implemented.

That would be great.

I found this URL structure which will display all of your posts within a board:

https://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/message/user-id/USERIDGOESHERE/board-id/BO...

Example of altenbach's posts within the LabVIEW board:

https://forums.ni.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/message/user-id/7614/board-id/170/post-typ...

I guess there is no user with a user ID="USERIDGOESHERE". 😄 Must be numeric....

If you go to your profile page, the user ID is the last number in the URL. Just get it from the address bar. Yours is 10342.

Thanks for the ID hint - would it be useful to have the ID also displayed in the user profile? Or having this link available without having to assemble it? Thanks!
