SH6868 vs. SH68-68-D1

Hi,

I have a PCI 6534 & PCI 6602, will a SH6868 connector work for either one?  What is the difference between the SH6868 vs. SH68-68-D1 as I couldn't find it on the two websites?

Thank you,

Hi Russell,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the NI Forums!

The SH68-68-D1 is currently listed on both the 6534 and the 6602 product pages at the recommended cable.  There are two primary differences between the SH68-68-D1 and SH6868:

  1. The SH68-68-D1 leaves four pins unconnected: 19, 35, 43, and 56
  2. The wires that are twisted together differ between the two cables.  On the D1, each digital line is paired with digital ground to help reduce noise and crosstalk.  The Regular SH6868 does not have the same pairings in mind.

Having said this, both cables do pass signals straight-through (i.e. pin 1 will go to pin 1 on the other end).  The SH6868 should therefore be technically useable with the two devices but would likely be more susceptible to noise and crosstalk.  If you try it out and have any problems with signal integrity I would suggest looking into obtaining the recommended cable.
