NI RIO and Safety

HI,

we are considering a cRIO or a digital R series board to handle the emergency signals of our system.

Is a RIO device suitable for such a thing? Can it be used to replace, for instance, a safety relay?

Cat it be used in a system to obtain SIL 2 or 3 ?

Hi,

I don't think you will get a SIL rating with a single RIO system.

SIL3 PLC systems have parallel systems that check each other.

I think it will be very expensive to build this in RIO. You also need to have it certified because it is not an existing system and proven system.
