Individually access inputs and outputs on single port (PXI-6509

Hi nyc,

Ah, thanks!

Yeah, so we have these contradictory (?) statements:

Datasheet:

"The NI 6509 device provides 96 lines of bi-directional DIO signals,
P<0..11>.<0..7>. You can use each of the DIO lines as a static digital input
(DI) or digital output (DO) line. All samples of DI lines and updates of DO
lines are software-timed."

ni.com product page:

"96 bidirectional digital I/O lines, 5 V TTL/CMOS (line direction selectable on an 8-bit port basis)"

In the datasheet statement: "... each of the DIO lines..." certainly reads like each individual line is selectable as an input or output.

So it seems the product page is more accurate than the datasheet? What is this world coming to? 😛

Best Regards,

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

I believe the discrepancy occurred because the PCIe form factor of the NI 6509 does support individual line input/output configuration while the rest of the form factors, including the PXI, only allow configuration on a port basis.  This information is discussed in the following article: https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z000000kHmdSAE&l=en-US.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for your efforts!

It's a lot of money to spend on a port-by-port expander 😕

Best Regards,

Adrian

That information should not be hidden away in another document.

It should be right there on the datasheet for the card.

Also, the following sentence sounds silly and contradictory.

===

All of the HSDIO cards can be configured on a per line basis.  However, none of HSDIO cards are based on the DAQ-STC asic.
