Can I Use a USB-6501 in place of a PCI-6503?

Solved!

I am currently using a PCI-6503 DIO Card in a Windows XP system. We are running an older version (7.1) of LabVIEW. We are trying a Virtual Machine under Windows 7, but it will not communicate with the PCI Bus. We are currently using a PCI-6503. Will a USB 6501 work in place of it?

The cabling will be different, but otherwise I am not seeing anything that should stop you.

Hey crossrulz. Question related to this thread:

I have specialty software using a PCI-6503 card to control a piece of equipment using NI Runtime 7.1 and NI DAQ 7.4.0. The system runs successfully within Windows XP but no more recent OS's. We are trying to get the computer replaced and updated with Win10.

Would using a USB-6501-OEM card with matching Win10 drivers in lieu of the 6503 work without any changes to the software?

"Without any change" - it depends, if the channels and features used are an exact match, then it might, but given your software was developed for old drivers, you may not be able to run the application on Win10 unless you recompile them to use the latest drivers and at least LV2015
