I checked with R&D on this, and they say that there are changes in the way DIAdem passes the report images to the PDF driver that simply don't exist in DIAdem 2010 and that there's no way to patch DIAdem 2010 to do that. They say that the only option is to upgrade to DIAdem 2011 or later.
If you do consider upgrading, I'd first download the DIAdem 2014 evaluation version and make sure the transparency it can achieve in the PDF is sufficient for your needs-- no sense paying extra money to not get what you want.
