My idea is to add the capability of word highlighting in scripts, much like most other programmers editors, this facilitates easy searching throughout a script and is an alternate way of finding a search match other than repeated F3 presses.


Word Highlight

For non-waveform channels that have a certain channel property populated that specifies another valid channel to use for the X-axis, it would be great if users could simply drag and drop channels into a VIEW 2D Axis System WITHOUT having to also select the x-axis channel.


(Over) Simplified logic:

When dragging a channel from the Data Portal to a 2D Axis System:


IF 'Waveform' channel property == No AND IF 'Xaxis' channel property specifies another valid channel,

THEN use this other valid channel for the X-Axis of the channel being dragged.


Example 1:

Let's say we have an internal combustion engine for which we are recording several channels at a rate of one sample per engine cycle. As the engine speed goes up or down, there is less or more time between each sample. This means we can NOT use a waveform channel. We must have an associated time channel for these several recorded channels. In this time channel, we will record a timestamp value when each engine cycle occurs.


Example of 'Xaxis' channel property value:

"Time Channels\Time Stamp Engine Cycles"


Example 2:

Let's say we are recording channels at a known rate, such as 100 Hz. A waveform would normally work for this. However, in this example, there will be gaps of no data in these data channels. These gaps may be relatively long in duration and we therefore do NOT want to record NO VALUE during this time, which would bloat our data files. We also do NOT want to put this data in separate data file nor in separate groups. This situation happens in MANY scenarios for us. For this, we must have an associated time channel for each of the data rates, such as "Time Stamp 1 Hz", "Time Stamp 10 Hz", "Time Stamp 50 Hz", and "Time Stamp 1000 Hz".


For both of these examples, plotting such non-waveform channels in a 2D Axis System could take less work on the end users' part, if we could add a little smarts to this drag-n-drop plotting operation. Implementing something like this will make creation of plots with meaningful x-axis values for non-waveform channels as easy as plot creation for waveform channels.


Here are the product suggestions I have for DIAdem, after going through the pain of creating a single report page:
1. Option to set the background color of a header in a table (not the entire table)
2. Option to prevent the column lines from going through the header section of the table
3. Group objects together in Diadem, (like PowerPoint ?)
4. Make DIAdem font size correspond to MS Office 's font size
5. Option to make individual Column/Row lines bold and set background color for each individual column/row

It would be great to be able to make a link between different pages in a DIAdem report, and have those links carry over into a PDF version of the report. For example, if I had a very large report, it might be useful to be able to create a Table of Contents with links to the different sections of the report.

Currently, the PDF creation process will create bookmarks for the pages, but a link within the document might be easier to use when examining the report.

I was fiddling with some DIADem Scripts and manage to crash DIADem twice, unfortunatly my VIEW, REPORTS and SCRIPTS weren't auto-saved.


That is kinda bad, so please add an autosave option.



I would like active hyperlinks to be allowed in REPORT layouts.  For example: http://www.ni.com/diadem/.  Clicking on this link (in the REPORT layout) would result in the user's default internet browser to open to the link.

When you have made a measurement with GPS positions included in your data, it should be possible to report or view a measured parameter on these GPS positions. It should be possible to give different colours to the parameter values. E.g. I have made some vibration measurements on a tram with GPS positions. When it is possible to give low vibrations levels a green colour and high levels a red colour you can easy spot bad sections of track. It is combining two functios DIAdem already has: GPS maps and 3D characteristic diagram.



It is very easy to delay the start of a video in order to offset the beginning of a video to a data set.  However it is more difficult to offset data in order to synchronise with another section of a video.


For instance - you may have a 12 second video with 6 seconds worth of data.  If this data relates to 6-12 s of the video, you need to change the x-axis of the 2D-axis area to mirror 6-12 s.


I would propose a "Video Offset" property.  This suggestion is similar to Time Shift Data Feature.



It was nice to have a conditional breakpoint, so only if a variable reaches a value

the executions stops and i can continue with debugging.

Having a similar conditional formatting functionality as Excel would help a lot of people transition to DIAdem.

I am sure that this is far from a 'new idea'.  I have been using DiAdem 11.1, and have not looked at the new features of 2010 yet.  The new idea...use LabVIEW code to make scripts.  I know LabVIEW very well, that is how I make the TDMS files; but the idea of data analysis or automation comes to a standstill when you tell me I need to learn VB to manipulate or work with the data I just gathered beyond the canned toolsets already in DiAdem.  DiAdem needs to be like Teststand in this regard.  You can use different code types with Teststand, and it works.  And this needs to work in all the different categories of scripting or automation (Navigator, View, Analysis, etc.)  Any software package NI creates should have LabVIEW as the center point, and always require seamless integration of LabVIEW code.  I think that comes down to plain-jane good marketing strategy.

I generate a very large number of polar plots which are beam patterns for sonar devices. I'm sure that radar folks do the same for their antennae. The standard in the industry for directivity patterns has long been to label the plots with negative angles to the left of boresite and positive numbers to the right. I am constantly asked to label my plots this way, and I have to keep making excuses because DIAdem does not allow this.

I do not understand why it is not possible jet. After I Drag and Drop a Waveform inside VIEW. A possibility to change the x-Axis to absolute time should be possible.

The only way of doing it now is creating an extra Time Channel.Smiley Sad

We use scripts extensively to automate many tasks in a consistent manner, so we back these scripts up in a version control system to track changes and revert back to a know version if issues arise.


However, because we also use Diadem dialogs we need to create SUD files to house not only the menus but also the scripts that can be built into them. These SUD files are binary in nature and cannot be compared in the version control system, which is primarily a text based tool, and because the fileformat is unknown any differences at the binary level are not easily understood.


My idea is to have a tool that can parse a SUD file to extract the script associated with each dialog and export that script to a VBS file in a programmatic manner, such that multiple VBS files can be created quickly instead of having to open each SUD file and its many dialogs and then capturing the scripts. The benefit this brings is that there will now be the ability to track script differences in any text diff tool of your choice, it would not address any changes of a graphical nature within the SUD file, but that is not the motivation for this idea.

Rather than asking for a change to the "Repeat Marker" to plot all the points (we'd prefer "Repeat Marker" in DIAdem VIEW to be "Every N Points" where N = 1 rather than "Up to N Points" where N = 100), I think it would be great if we could have a configurable DIAdem default set of VIEW items that could be saved via usercommand, script, or a file configuration so we could conveniently spread it to our users.

This could include colors, points and/or lines, "Repeat Markers" configuration, line width/size/fill.


The "Repeat Markers" option is the most important to us because we have had users in the past who didn't realize that they were only seeing 100 points of their data, which can be a very bad thing (for example if you've turned off curve color and are looking for outliers in 150 points of data).  On the other hand, I can understand not wanting to plot 2 billion points on a graph, hence the ability for an administrative body (or individual users) to configure the graph defaults.



An existing DIAdem and DAC user want to measure Sound & Vibration signals. Basic S&V Functions like dB ABC weighting, sound level,... (existing functions in the S&V Meas.Suite) would be nice to have in DIAdem as well.

Current Workaround:

Use S&V Assistant for this application.

Include everything in DIAdem would increase efficency.








This idea is borrowed from other programmers editors where you can select a sub-routine name or function name and then right click on this name to jump to where it is defined. The path to search for could be based on the currently open scripts within Diadem Script editor or it could be extended to all user commands currently loaded.

Goto Defined

While looking at data I will often want to know the mean average of a section of data (max and min are also nice to see).  It would be fantastic if in VIEW mode, you could highlight a section of data (by flagging it) and see in some area of VIEW (like the "Common Properties" section or maybe even a pop-up) statistics of the selected data without having to copy the flagged data and do an analysis of it. This function would go really nice in the drop-down area where you can choose to copy, move or interpolate the flagged data points.

We need to have vector based graphics output of DIAdem reports for importing into test reports, written in Word. The comparison of EML and EPS output format of DIAdem favoured the EPS in terms of print quality.


However, the EPS format is actually not vector graphics output but a pixel image, wrapped by a few lines postscript code. It's size is also about 1000 times bigger than the EML output of the same curve.


We also compared the DIAdem output with an old UNIX software suite, formerly used for a Versatec light beam plotter. The postscript output from the UNIX software has about half the size of the EML format, but the software can not easily ported onto recent systems.


It seems worthwhile to improve the capabilities of DIAdem for size-reduced real vector-based postscript output. The algorithm should be able to reduce the lines to be printed by optimization for a given printer resolution. Target should be the smallest possible output file.

I would like to have a smith chart axis type for RF plots.
