Font Color Change is very slow

I am using version 2.3 of the toolkit and have found the performance to be good except when I introduce font color changes.  The result is a huge decrease (around 10x) in performance.  I was wondering if the latest version has optimizations that would help with this problem.

Forgot to mention that I am using the XLR8 toolkit...
