Student version missing basic components?

I am considering learning with Multisim. Just briefly looking through the component list for the student version and I see that it's missing two very components that I would need:   BS170 mosfet and J201 JFET.

I don't see shelling out 10 times the price just to get these 2 components being worthwhile when I am just gonna tinker with the software. Is there any way to obtain/buy individual components models?

Cheers. Smiley Happy

You can always request models here on this forum. People who have them are more than willing to share. The only thing is that you you have to use the model to create your own compnent which sometimes is a pain in the kester, but is doable. You would have to consult your literature to become familiar with how to do this if you don't already know.

I have these two components from my Multisim 2001 Power Pro database. I will post them for you below.

.SUBCKT BS170 3 4 5

I hope I have helped you in this matter. Just so you'll know, Multisim is divided into tiers (Student, Pro, and Power Pro). These designations may change from version to version. When I purchase mine they were designated Student,Personal, Pro, and Power Pro. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that in order to divide these up like this, some components get left out the further you go down the ladder. So, there will be more components in Power Pro than in the Student version and, of course, this mean mo money if you want a lot of parts. Also there will be other features and instruments that won't be available in the lower categories as well.

Have a nice day.

Hey. Thanks for that! 🙂

I'm pretty sure you can also get a model by downloading a circuit that contains that component.  Hence, you could've dropped the component on a schematic and uploaded it to the forum and, therefore, passed the model.

Not 100% sure, but I think this is the case.

Any chance you have the 2n3055 and 2n2955?  I sure would like to try. 😉

Yes, you are correct about that Euler and from now on I will do that because not everyone is experienced in creating components and this will eliminate any problems that may be created by trying to make a component from the model file. The only thing is that the person will have to tell me which version they have, because older versions can't open newer version files. Since I have Version 2001 also this shouldn't be much of a problem.

Thanks a bunch for that.

I am unsure about your last question. Did you want the 2N3055 from Version 2001? I am just wondering because Version 10 has a 2N3055A that I am sure would be comparable to the staright 2N3055. Unfortuantely, I checked both versions and there is no 2N2955 in either one.

I have v10.0.343, but the startup says 10.0.1, while the "update checker" says my product is updated.

So what do I have, and can you pass me 2n3055 and 2n2955?  I also want TIP42 if possible.

We both have the same version of 10.0.1 Build 343. You shou have a 2N3055A in the database as well a a TIP42A. Just in case you don't I will post a schematic with both of these on it and you can save them to yopu user database. Unfortunately, neither Version I have has a 2N2955. I will see if I can find a model for you that works. I will create the component and put it on a schematic for you to test with and see if it meets your requirements for your application.(I can create components this way, but I have never been able to do it from the datasheet with the model makers).

lacy, hello!

If it is possible, could you please do the same thing for TIP41A, couse I don't have it in my Multisim, and I really need it.

Thanks in advance! 🙂
