Why does deleting a single trace cause copper areas  to vanish?.  More importantly, how can I make Ultiboard stop this annoying behavior?

No, but I can email you the file.

 

I have seen this many times and in multiple files.  Most of the time i have to delete the whole power plane or copper area and reapply it which is a pain since then the island removal has to be done all over again.
