Convert Multisim v10 DB to Multisim v11 DB

I have gotten this question several times with existing customers:  What is the correct way of porting the v10 database (or earlier) to the v11 database.

What makes this more confusing than usual is the new Windows file locations (in v10.1).   The next post will walk you through the process.

First of all, if you've started by pointing your v11 databases to the older v10 or older datbase locations (Options->Global Preferences...) - stop!  Why? Because you'll get this error the next time Multisim launches...

Error_database_version.JPG

You'll need to hit <OK> and first point Multisim back to the original v11 database original locations.  Also its always a good idea to locate your older databases and archive them.

For reference here is where the v11 databases need to point to (may be variances based on OS used - this is for XP)...

Corporate:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite\11.0\database\CPCOMP_S.PRJ

User: -> replace <USER> with your login (in 2 places)...

C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\National Instruments\Circuit Design Suite\11.0\database\UsrComp_S_<USER>.usr

OK - now you are set to 'Convert' the database from the previous version.  You will select the source database from the dialog and the target database will be one of the target database locations above.

To convert your older Multisim DB to v11:

1. Go to Tools -> Database -> Convert...

2. Choose the version type you are converting from (V9->v11, v10-v11)

3. Hit the 'Source Database' button to select the Source Database

4. Hit Start and select the choice for 'Resolving Duplicates' (if you just installed v11 there shouldn't be any duplicates)

5. You should now see the conversion taking place (it is updating both Multisim parts and Ultiboard shapes)

6. Once done, close the dialog

7. Open up the Component Selection window to verify your parts have migrated to the appropriate Corp/User database.

If you are updating a Corporate Database from a network location, you'll need to take the additional step and copy the Corp database back to your network location.   Also you'll need to point other users to the new corporate database location.

Hope this helps,
