Speaking of showing off, I had a hand in Curiosity.  I worked on the radio that sends the telemetry back to Earth.  That's when I learned I was not an RF Engineer.

Cool. At least the vehicle you worked on made it to Mars correctly.

I worked on the Canadian addition to the Japanese Nozomi Spacecraft and we missed Mars orbit. Nothing I did - I just did a launch vibration on the one instrument.

My company made the fiber that collects light for the laser based spectrometer (LIBS) and LabVIEW had a role in measuring the critical diameter specifications of the fiber. Watched mission control live during the EDL phase, cool to watch success in real time!
