Good Morning NI - I'm here..

Ben, you are too busy ! You missed an important info, few post ago : it's an insect (BTW, a rather small one...).
And I think that insects can be considered as invertebrates ?..

I am just trying to make a last minute guess b4 I disappear for the week-end.

Well that rules out 10% of the possibilities.

Bees can convert larvae into what ever version they need, but you said adults and the bees take days.

I may have to tune in for tha answer on Sunday.

Have fun all,

No..
it was reading " ...a tiny flea.. the type that crawls on dogs and rabbits..."

...think of all the extra clothes you have to keep if you could change sex at the drop of a hat and the problem you get with a one of the sexes, "what do I wear...."

CC,

that's not the insect you are looking for but I found another species which is caple as adult to change sex. It's the Clownfisch.

Quoted from wikipedia.

Clownfish are protandrous hermaphrodites, meaning they are hatched as sexually immature fry. Based on signals from their environment and being physically mature (12-24 months) they will either remain sexually immature, change into a male or change into a male then female. A group of clownfish is always built into a hierarchy of this type, with the female (the largest and most aggressive) at the top. The change from juvenile to male, and male to female is irreversible. If the female should die or be removed from the group, the most dominant male then changes into a female, and the rest of the males move up a rank on the hierarchy.

End quote

Unfortunatly it's a oneway street.

BTW: Does the top holder of the list will become a female when tst will leave us?

Nobody found the right answer. Shame on you !

As far as I know, the only animal able to change from one sex to to the other, in a few seconds, is the
crab louse
I told you that neither of you was aware of the things of life... :D:D:D
