tja 1040

I try to devellop a bus can application and i bought a NI Can card:
PCI-CAN series 2 with a transciver TJA1040. I'am asking a question about the
power supply of the can network and I can't find on the NI-Can Help the specifications about my transciver power supply ( especially for the switch ext or int).
If you know the answer please anwser me.
Thanks

Hi c-air,

The transceiver is completely internally powered on your card (through a DC/DC converter to maintain isolation from the rest of the CAN card and the computer). External power (or 'bus power') is not necessary with your card. Pin 9 (V+) of the 9-pin D-SUB connector is not connected in your case.
The early versions of the Series 2 PCI-CAN cards that shipped with the mentioned transceiver also shipped with the following note to complete the documentation:
http://digital.ni.com/manuals.nsf/websearch/22DAAFFA3E224D6886256D6B0052450E?opendocument

I am a bit confused about you mentioning the INT/EXT switch. Your board should not have that switch. If it does, please post the full part number of your Series 2 PCI-CAN card (18.....).

I hope this answers your question.
