controlling geared motor (comes with mirio mechatronics kit) with PID

Hi

 

when I connect my geared motor and h-bridge to myrio as described in essential guide it is not showing any cunter value. it stays all the zero. should i cange the channel from A to B? how to select a specific pin in the channel? it is not reading the value from encoder or i should make the change to make it read? i check connection several times. the connections are OK. I would like to add PID as it is described in the guide? I have mydaq too. So i will try to get the transfer function of the motor with MyDAQ bode plot. to tune with Ziegler-nichols PID tuning i need the transfer function. right?
