Power Supply Protection myDaq

Hi All,

I know that the myDAQ has a fuse to protect from overages on the DMM, but is there any protection on the power supplies?  Is there built in protection to prevent accidental shorts of the power supplies when students are using them?

Hi VicFirth,

The specifications document for the myDAQ has a good explanation of this.

There is a regulator for the +15V and -15V lines, and a current limiter as well as a protection circuit.  These are provided by Texas Instruments, and the part numbers can be found on the schematic and researched vi the TI website for low level specs.

The +15V and -15V power rails are limited to 38mA and the +5V rail is limited to 100mA, and the entire unit is limited to 500mW of power supply, which is further discussed in the manual.

If the rails are shorted together, the current would reach compliance regulation, and thus the voltage would drop accordingly due to the current regulation and Ohm's law.

Hope this helps,
