Hi,

I'm new to Labview. I want to control the XPS motion controller using Labview and I wanted to get started with the examples provided by XPS along with the drivers. But I get a warning while loading the example. I have attached a screenshot of it. Please help.

Also, opening the example opens just the front panel. How do I open the bloack diagram of the example VI?

Thank you.

Watchdog timout errors on NI-7356 (-70035 NIMC_watchdogTimoutError)

Hi,

I have a test setup based on a NI-7356 controller. It controls 6-axis, performs contouring and high speed capture.

I have two types of watchdog errors:

1. The computer has to be cold started twice before the controller works. The first startup results in a watchdog timeout error making it unusable without a new cold start.

2. Random watchdog errors (-70035 NIMC_watchdogTimoutError) occur when running the program. They usually occur on completion of a simple move or while intermediately halting a move. This can happen with or without high speed capture/contouring. These errors require a reset of the controller (no power cycling).

I already reduced the number of calls to the controller (e.g. checking for motion complete every 50ms or more, updating contour buffers every 200ms, reading high speed capture buffers every 200ms) so it doesn't get flooded.

Any ideas why this is happening? How can I solve this?

Kind regards,

Wouter

Labview code for scanning feed

Hello,

I'm working with a microscope with a camera attached that transfers the feed to my pc. In my samples, there are parts with different intensities, and I'm interested in using Labview to automatically scan the images that I'm getting, and use it to tell me where can I find the zones with lower intensity, because I'm only interested in these. At the moment I do it manually, but my idea is to divide the sample in square grids and through Labview, make the process automatic.

I would like to know if this is possible, and if so, I would appreciate some advice related to the matter.

Thanks

Unable to undeploy SoftMotion axis: Hex 0x80004005

Hello,

I was using a cRIO-9076 + NI 9505 + SoftMotion for a project. Now, I'd like to reuse the hardware for a new project.

The old project had a SoftMotion axis (Unbound), which is refusing to be undeployed. According to the Project & System Comparison dialog, the existence of this axis on the cRIO is the only thing that doesn't match my new project. However, When I select "Undeploy" and click "Apply", I get this:

Initializing...
Checking items for conflicts. This operation could take a while...
Undeploying Axis 1
LabVIEW: (Hex 0x80004005) Unspecified error.
=========================
NI System Configuration: (Hex 0x80004005) Miscellaneous operation failure.
Undeploy completed with errors

I tried these with no luck:

Powering down and restarting both the cRIO and my PC

Switching the cRIO scan engine from Active mode to Configuration mode

Any hints? I'm running LabVIEW 2012 (no other versions exist on this development PC).

AKD Drive Ethercat Torque Mode

I know that similar questions have been asked before without a satisfactory answer (thread), but we are trying to operate an AKD drive in torque mode over an EtherCat interface using a cRIO-9022. I have located and been testing PaulRB's workaround (link), but we seem to have a problem.

When attempting to use "Test App.vi" to run my drive, I receive the error "Error -70228 occured at Axis when executing 'Power' on Axis 1 at Invoke Node in Test App.vi". Labview seems to think that the drive is not enabled, but I have checked that the hardware enable is active (works in Kollmorgen Workbench). Additionally, I can get the drive to move using the Interactive Test Panel in Labview using the built-in AKD axis binding. I am using:

LabVIEW 2012

LabVIEW Real-Time 2012

NI SoftMotion Standard 2012

NI RIO 12.0.1

NI Industrial Communication for EtherCAT 2.4

It is unclear to me if this problem is related to the fact that we are using Softmotion Standard 2012 instead of Softmotion Premium 2012, or is something else entirely. Our group is currently on a tight budget and I would hate to advise them to upgrade the Softmotion module only to have this problem persist (or discover some other issue).

Assuming that the Softmotion module is the problem, is there a way for us to evaluate the Softmotion Premium module before I recommend an upgrade?

High-speed sinusoidal motion control with LoadTargetPosition.vi?

Hello,

I have a linear stage that I'd like to move sinusoidally at frequencies of up to 100Hz. I'd like to determine the best way to accomplish this.

Here's one idea I had: generate the sinusoidal signal with an external function generator (e.g., HP 33120), feed that into my DAQ card, then set that as my target position using the Load Target Position vi. Problem is, I did some experiments with a simple VI and determined that the fastest I can read a voltage and update the target position is ~250Hz. So that would give very poor sampling of the incoming 100Hz wave.

I thought about using the Basic Function Generator vi, but that would still require the Load Target Position vi, so I would run into the same problem.

Would there be any way to directly feed in the HP Function Generator signal to the target position on the motion card's control loop? Could I use any of the PXI chassi's capabilities?

Hardware:
Linear voice coil stage
    Analog potentiometer position feedback
PXI-7358 motion card
    UMI-7764 and SCB-68 screw-terminal boards
PXIe-1071 chassis
PXIe-6363 DAQ card
PXIe-8370 MXI x4 pc/chassis link
HP 33120A function generator
Windows desktop PC
Copley Accelus amplifier

Thanks!
Matthew

I do not have much of an idea what hardware I require to run the stepper motor. I would really appreciate if someone could give me any help with any specifications on a stepper motor type I should choose and other compatible hardware (like any DAQ system) I would need to run the motor. I haven't had any experience with stepper motors or labview before. So any information would be most helpful.

I have a multiaxis system (3 x PCI 7334 cards, 1 x MID-7604, 2 x UMI 7764 and 8 x third party amps connected to the UMIs) where I use the Inhibit inputs and the Inhibit outputs for thermal management. This is a system with motors in vacuum so cooling is not present and under certain conditions the motors can overheat. When a motor gets too hot the Inhibit input is activated (via 3rd party TC controller) thus the inhibit output is activated and the stepper amp is turned off (via digital enable on stepper amp). This unfortunately also happens when the computer reboots due to the Host Bus Interlock function on the UMI 7764 (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/8896C879C13983734825750E00353CAD). I would like the stepper amps connected to the UMI 7764 to stay energized during the reboot cycle on the hoist PC. Is there a way to disable the Host Bus Interlock feature of the UMI 7764? Is there a possible work around this behaviour? Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to run my softmotion by following this link from getting started with ni softmotion " http://www.ni.com/white-paper/9566/en#toc1 " but when i try to open

Differences between Dynamixel MX28 servo control and MX106

I have just received a couple of MX106T Dynamixel servos (get to play with torque control!).

Is there a difference between initializing for the MX28 and the MX106?
I can't find any data on that... right now, normally, I create blocks on the block diagram for

"VISA resource name" and "Baud rate" and connect those to the "Dynamixel Motor.lvlib:Initialize.vi" block... which is in turn connected to my actual control blocks.

I know that the MX106T can do torque control as well but haven't explored this. I would very much like to, so if anyone has a tutorial, that would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Bipolar stepper motors (2x) to follow a set of coordinates

Hi!

I want my bipolar stepper motors (2x) to follow a set of coordinates, so I hope someone could help me get started.

The stepper motor control vi receives an amount of steps, negative amount for stepping backwards.

Thus; to calculate amount of steps needed to get to the next coordinate: No. of steps = Active Coordinate - Previous coordinate

In the set/list/array I want to specify if it's for motor 1 or 2 and whether a specific, additional signal is on or not.

Example

10231 - motor 1 without additional signal on, moves to coordinate 231

11300 - motor 1 with additional signal on, moves to coordinates 300

00231 - motor 2 without additional signal on, moves to coordinate 231

01300 - motor 2 with additional signal on, moves to coordinate 300

Where the first number indicates motor 1 or 2, the second number if the additional signal is on or off and the 3 last is the desired coordinate.

The first 2 numbers should be split individual signals.

The amount of coordinates will vary.

Regrads,

motion controller selection

Dear all,

I am building a 3 stepper motors with 1 encoder for linear motion system by using labview NI6212 for a stuent project in University. I am using faulhaber stepper motor AM1524-2R-V-6-35-07 + 15/8-262:1 and AM2224-2R-AV-4.8-12 + 22EKV-10486:1 and driver board AD-CM-M1S.

I am not familar with motion control and I would like to ask few general questions.

Should I buy motion controller or I can program it in labVIEW? The function of my system is stretching polymer sample, so the force is changing over time. I think a closed-loop feedback system is neccessary.

Can I use NI or faulhaber motion controller?

Is the software provided already so that I can integrate to my existing labview program?

My questions may be too general and I hope you can give me some online resource to read.

Thank you very much!

Cheers,

Encoder readout speed of 9512 module

Dear all,

I would like to read encoder position (encoder connected to 9512) of stepper motor (also connected to 9512 module and P70530 driver) operating in closed-loop mode at speed higher than the scan engine speed (default 100 Hz, 10 ms). I have cRIO 9025 and FPGA chassis 9118. Is that possible with soft motion? If I change the speed of the control program running on RT cRIO (timed loop at 1 kHz), the encoder output is updated at loop rate, but the data output reflects still the scan engine speed. If I change the speed of scan engine on RT cRIO to 1 kHz, I get an error.

Another idea would be to program the 9512 module in FPGA mode, but as I understand, you have to synchronize FPGA to scan engine...

So my question is: Is it possible to read encoder output data at speed higher than 1 kHz with 9512 stepper module?

Thank you!

Hi. I am really new in LV and I need a help. I did this basic control http://www.ni.com/white-paper/11197/en to generate PWM and control DC engine. But I need to control it in both directions in Scan interface and I need a graph of PWM which I generate. I have H-bridge connect to Rio. I´ve three 9041 and one 9215 modul. I know, it´s easy, but I need some tutorial.

Thank you.

XPS motion controller drivers not showing up on Function Palette

I downloaded the drivers for the XPS Q8 motion controller and copied it to the user libraries folder where LabView is installed on my system. But the functions show up as Icons with a Question mark in my Function palette under User Libraries. How do I get this to work properly? I am not connected to the instrument. Should I be connected in order to be able to access the driver functions?
